  Compact packaging and field replaceable relays make the series 13/14 an attractive addition to any low or medium temperature heating or cooling system. Unit comes with ˝in stand-offs for ease of mounting and uses conservatively rated commercial grade components. Select on/off or time proportioning control with either SPDT relay, triac or solid-state relay (SSR) output. 30mA gate drive is also available. Designed for heating and cooling applications and with either local (integral) or remote set potentiometer.

These analog controllers are designed for thermistor sensors. Select a standard temperature range from -90 to +600 degrees F or specify your own range. Series 13/14 is truly a low cost answer in such equipment as vulcanizers, heat sterilizers, hot melt applicators, photo-processors, griddles, steamers, laboratory instruments. Each unit comes with a handsome 2.25in skirted knob and scale calibrated in degrees F and C. Order potentiometer to suit application.

Proportional control

The proportional bandwidth is a fixed temperature band about the selected set point in which the controller anticipates and regulated power. The controller will stabilize between zero power (off al the time) and 100% (on all the time). The optimum system is set to use 50% power when controlling at the desired temperature. A slow responding system can use a narrow proportional band, but a fast reacting system should use a wide proportional band.

On/off (differential) control

On/off power control (non-anticipatory) may be preferred in some applications. In this mode, controllers typically provide stability of better than ±0.5°F in a well-balanced system without overshoot. Sensitivity is determined by the differential (factory fixed). It can be as little as 0.1°F or as much as 50°F, depending on the application.

Output ratings

For inductive applications or alarm requirements, relay outputs are suggested.

For resistive heating applications, triac outputs are recommended. The triac output can also drive an externally mounted triac when load requirements exceed the controller output rating. See Quantem P/N 212-70038 25A Triac “Quick-Pak”.
